Dr. Naushad Ali Azad is a distinguished economist and academic leader with over 42 years of experience in teaching, research, and university administration across premier institutions such as Jamia Millia Islamia, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Aligarh Muslim University, and Delhi University. He has served as Dean, Head of Department, and Provost at Jamia Millia Islamia and contributed extensively to academic governance, research guidance, and policy formulation. With international teaching experience in Poland and Iraq and invitations from the Governments of Vietnam and Turkey, Dr. Azads expertise spans global and national dimensions of economics and education. A prolific researcher and President of the Association for Environment and Development Research, he has been a member of several professional bodies, advisory committees, and government organizations, including the National Skill Development Agency and the G. B. Pant Social Science Institute.

Dr. Naushad Ali Azad is a highly accomplished academic and economist with over 42 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership across India’s premier central universities. His distinguished academic journey spans institutions such as Jamia Millia Islamia, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Aligarh Muslim University, and Delhi University—reflecting a deep engagement with both the teaching and research dimensions of higher education. Over the decades, he has guided numerous research scholars and contributed significantly to the fields of economics, policy, and development studies through his extensive body of published work, including research papers in national and international journals and presentations at global conferences.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Azad has played pivotal roles in university administration and academic governance. He has served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences (2002–2005), Head of the Department of Economics (1997–2000 and 2001–2003), and Provost of Boys’ Hostels (1995–1997) at Jamia Millia Islamia. His leadership has extended to several academic boards and faculty committees of JMI, JNU, AMU, and Delhi University. He has also been a valued member of numerous selection committees for academic positions at prestigious universities such as Banaras Hindu University, Allahabad University, and Assam University. His contributions to education policy and institutional development have been recognized through his advisory roles for the Ministry of Education, UPSC, SSC, the State Bank of India, and several Public Service Commissions.

Dr. Azad’s academic influence extends well beyond India’s borders. He has undertaken foreign teaching assignments at the Central School of Planning and Statistics in Warsaw, Poland (1979–1980), and the University of Arbil, Iraq (1981–1983). He has also been invited by the Governments of Vietnam (2007, 2009, 2010) and Turkey (2008) to organize academic workshops and explore academic-business collaborations. A member of several professional associations—including the Indian Economic Association and the Indian Econometric Society—Dr. Azad currently serves as President of the Association for Environment and Development Research (AEDR). His continued engagement as a member of the Board of Governors and various academic and administrative committees of the G. B. Pant Social Science Institute, as well as the National Skill Development Agency, underscores his ongoing commitment to advancing economic education, policy research, and national development.
